Next Steps for Admitted Students

NSO in Union Street Center

First and foremost, congratulations on your admission to Indiana University! Get ready for the most exciting four (give or take a few) years of your life. I know getting admitted to college can be extremely scary and daunting, so here’s a few tips to help make everything seem a little easier.

Tour IU’s beautiful campus if you haven’t already

Showalter Fountain

You won’t regret coming to Bloomington and seeing for yourself all of the wonderful things IU offers to current and prospective students. Take a tour with our wonderful tour guides, where you’ll learn about IU history and events you can involve yourself in once you become a student here. A visit really lets you imagine what it’s like to live on campus and be a student!

Pay your enrollment deposit by May 1

To officially reserve your seat in the next class of students, make sure to pay your $100 enrollment deposit by May 1! In order to do so, you must use your university ID (which was given to you on your admission letter) to create your IU computing account. This can take up to two hours to activate, so be patient! To create your computing account, just search “Create My First IU Account” on One.IU (a more detailed explanation can be found on the admissions website).

Apply for housing

Read Hall

Housing applications open up in the beginning of February. Housing is granted on a first-come first-served basis, so apply as soon as you can. Make sure you research all of IU’s great dorms, neighborhoods, and learning communities you can live in. If you have a certain person you would prefer to live with, make sure to request them on the application and make sure your applications match!

Sign up for New Student Orientation

NSO while raining

New Student Orientation is required for all new students and is a super fun and great way to meet new people before you all move to Bloomington together. Also, it’s where you schedule classes for your first semester as a student. It’s advised to make your reservation to NSO as soon as you get your invitation, as time slots fill up super quickly. Also, make sure you take the two required tests before attending NSO (math and language placement) to help advisors place you in the correct classes.

Again, congratulations on your admission. We cannot wait to have you in Bloomington!
