High school and college are two completely different worlds. Everybody’s experience is different: A new room, new friends and a new you. There’s a reason we say “expect the unexpected.” Here are 5 things I didn’t expect from college.
Did you make friends during orientation or welcome week? Well, that’s not the end of making friends when it comes to college. You’ll meet people on your floor, from your classes, from club meetings and all the other places you go to.
One thing I did not expect is that it never ends. I talked to and met over 50 people over welcome week and how many do I talk to now? 2 or 3 of them, once a week! Don’t worry if you don’t have friends, you will meet someone in the next five minutes.
2. Delicious Food!
I expected the food in college to be mediocre but boy was I wrong! It is delicious — and your mom isn’t here to stop you! There are so many food courts around campus that you can have anything you want at literally any time! Don’t be afraid of FRESHMEN 15 because once classes begin it’ll be alright. Even if you are tired of eating on campus, there are always ton of places you can explore around Bloomington too.
3. All The Homework!
This isn’t high school. Homework in college is different and the due dates are shorter. Between you running around campus and doing other stuff, even a 500 word essay is going to take you three days to finish. I didn’t expect that I will be spending my nights in the library and not in my wonderful dorm.
4. Daily Exercise
When you’re in college, you most probably do not have to go to the gym. The amount of walking you do from your dorm to your classes to your dining hall- it’s a total workout! For me, my classes are spread all around campus, so don’t expect to see me at the gym.
5. Things to Do on Campus
Don’t worry about your social life in college! All you have to do is get involved and you’ll be fine. I never thought there are going to be so many things to do in college. There’s so much going on, even things you’ve never even heard of! From a swim team to a sweet potato club, you could do anything and make up your own event.
College is what you make of it. Everybody has a different experience. These are the 5 things I did not expect from college for the short time I have been here. What are some of the things you did not expect or are expecting from college? Tell us in the comments below. ‘Til then… GO HOOSIERS!
