College Application Quick Tips

Applying to college can be a daunting task. I know when the applications came during my senior year of high school, I was on the site right away to apply. There are a few things I did to make the process easier and seem a little less scary.

1. Have an idea of what you want to do.

This is one thing I had no idea about, but I definitely recommend knowing what field you may want to into, possible majors, and the programs that may best apply to those goals.

2. Start applications early.

It is nice to go through the applications and see what information you need or tasks you may need to do. Some applications, including IU, have personal essays, so getting an idea of what you write in advance is super helpful. Additionally, you will be accepted early if you apply early.

3. Apply to multiple colleges.

It is always good to have options for different schools, especially if you don’t know exactly what you want to do, as some schools may not offer programs in that field. It can also be helpful in case your circumstances end up changing.

4. Apply for direct admission.

Certain programs, like the Kelley School of Business, offer direct admission into programs based off of your high school grades, extracurricular activities, and test scores. If you think you want to be in one of those programs, apply for them. You are not tied down to the program, but it is nice to be admitted before your first year of college.
