End of Welcome Week Tricks

Hello readers!

I hope everyone is enjoying their welcome week as much as I am. Although as the day #2 of classes rolled around, I don't know if I was quite ready to jump back into learning. It's now or never I suppose. Anyways, I'm back and here with a few helpful hints and reminders.

Now that you've made a bunch of new friends during Welcome Week and the first week of classes, make sure you keep in contact with them. Get their numbers, and then put in where you met them somewhere in their contact information. (If you have an iPhone, you can use the company box, then when you search "psych class" in your contacts, their name will come up.) Make sure you keep in touch, because time flies in college, and soon enough it will be winter break and you'll be wondering why you never hung out.

Secondly, make sure you go to the call out meetings for clubs you are interested in. They normally give out free pizza, so even if you wind up not being drawn to join, you can score some free food. What college kid doesn't like free food? Answer: no one.

Don't know even what IU has to offer? Fear not! There is a Student Involement Fair on August 29th in the morning/afternoon ish at Dunn Meadow. Go stop by on your way to class ( you may want to leave early) and see what peaks your interest. There are board game clubs, service fraternitys, clubs for your major, Globe Med, IUDM, even a Harry Potter club. If you don't find something you like, you aren't looking hard enough. Please come check it out. Also, if you really like what WeAreIU.com has going for it, you can stop by and apply to become a student blogger yourself!

Now since everyone knows what you really want out of your college experience is a degree.... make sure you keep on top of your schoolwork. There are some people standing around campus handing out free schedules. If you don't have one, get one. Keep on top of all of your due dates, because sometimes they sneak up on you. Every Sunday I sit down and go through all my syllabi and see what I have coming up this week. It's a good way for me to recenter and focus on what lies ahead. FInd what works for you.

That's all for now,

peace, love, IU
