Ways to Give Back to the Btown Community

Hey you-- yeah you, there-- do you want to volunteer for a cause you're passionate about? Don't know where to start? Well, I've compiled some links for you here to make exploring the options a little easier. There are so many great organizations and events to volunteer with here in town, so I can only list a fraction of them here. But go out, explore, and find something you love!

A sampling of options-

Shalom Community Center--

homelessness and poverty

Habitat for Humanity--

affordable housing

Interfaith Winter Shelter (won't be running until winter)--

Middle Way House--

stopping violence and abuse

Big Brothers Big Sisters--

mentoring children

City of Bloomington Commission on Sustainaibility

green initiatives

Bloomington Animal Shelter

caring for community animals

Other Ways to Volunteer

  • Give blood
  • Schedule events with school or church groups or friends to promote service days
  • Join a service fraternity
  • Support IUDM
  • Go out to eat on a proceeds night when a restaurant is giving a percentage of sales to a certain cause
  • Donate food/personal products to food banks or community shelters
  • Find a way to volunteer to share your talents with others-- sing, dance, act, bike, play, write-- do whatever you do best!
  • Tutor a child or a fellow IU student
  • Visit a nursing home
  • Help out with events around town like Lotus Fest
  • Start an organization of your own

The possibilities are endless, my friends!
