Today, I was thinking about all of the amazing things I've done since coming to IU and it was hard to narrow this post down to just one experience. There are a few, however, that stand out in my mind as being extraordinary. Here at IU, there are so many things to do. It's impossible to get bored when you're in the center of so much activity. As a freshman, I was almost overwhelmed by all of the possibilities.
It all starts during Welcome Week. I remember being so nervous because none of my friends from high school came here. I thought that I would be so alone but that's not what happened at all. Welcome Week is the perfect opportunity to focus on building your new social life here at IU. I've met so many amazing friends that I can't imagine my life without. And with new friends come new traditions.
My favorite tradition, by far, is going to Mother Bear's with the girls on my dorm floor. There are so many of us that you will always be able to find someone who is craving pizza just as much as you and where better to get it than Bloomington's famous...Mother Bear's! The first time you go, bring a marker to write a message (or your signature) on the booth. College culture is at its high at Mother Bear's. There are so many different languages represented on the booths that all of the words and pictures become one piece of history. That's what IU is all about for me: becoming one with those around you and learning to accept and embrace all of the culture surrounding you.
That's enough rambling...go to Mother Bear's! It's a great place to go with a few people to enjoy good food, read some interesting commentary on the booths, and share some laughs with truly amazing people. And DON'T forget to leave your mark. You are, after all, an important piece to the whole that makes up this beautiful college, Indiana University.
