Surviving at IU

Wow it's been a whirlwind of a month!

Just when I'm ahead in all my classes, an unexpected family emergency occured and I had to deal with it at home a few weekends ago.

But that's what is so great about the Bloomington community -- I knew I could survive, once I was ready to come back.

I knew if I needed to, I could have talked to professors and asked for additional time on my assignments. And my editors (I'm an intern at The Herald-Times this fall) were very understanding. The J-School staff, the two people I talked to, were also supportive.

So I wanted to use this personal situation to let you, the reader, know that IU is a great place to be. There is no place else I want to be at this point in my life, with the support and encouragement of professors and my friends. And with the relationships I have here, I knew I would survive.

I'm ready to bounce back and absorb myself in classes and this fall weather that's so gorgeous in Bloomington.

And now that I've survived midterms, I'm happy to celebrate IU during Homecoming this weekend! We've all worked hard for a few relaxing days off and I plan to take advantage of it.
