Cinema Craze

Whether you're into romantic comedies, horror films, action, or animation, you probably watch a lot of movies. Here at IU there are always many options available for a movie night with friends--a regular weekend occurrence in my case. For students living on campus, each dorm has a mini-library called "Music Movies and More" (MMM) and with a campus access card you can check out up to two movies and two CDs at a time!

When we're looking for a movie night out it's always fun (and convenient) to see whatever movie is playing at the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU). Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, the Union Board organization shows a film in The Whittenberger Auditorium at 8pm and 11pm (and it's free for students, woo-hoo!). So far I've only been a few times, but it's always really fun to go!

Another great way to experience film on campus is by visiting the IU Cinema. With the Oscars coming up this Sunday, the IU Cinema recently showed the Oscar nominated short films (both live action and animated) to both students and non-students. I only had the chance to watch the live action short films, but I really enjoyed all of them. It was part of IU Cinema's International Arthouse Series--and each series shown is sponsored by a different degree program on campus.

I don't know if college students are supposed to be movie buffs, or if we're just lucky to have a variety of film showings in and around campus. But I know I always look forward to winding down the week with an awesome flick!
