Woo! So the time is finally here--we're in the midst of Welcome Week, and the last full week of relaxation and no responsibilities! I'm trying my best here at Willkie South to feel at ease and happy about this last week. So far I've been watching movies, hanging with friends, and generally sitting around on my computer; that is certainly not a bad thing either, considering all of our schedules are about to get a lot more hectic come next week here at IU.
Luckily, for those of you who love socializing, and don't want to just socialize by meeting others in your dorms, there are numerous activities being thrown this week! Here are just a few and some tidbits of information on them:
Freshman Induction Ceremony
Wednesday, August 15th
Freshman!!! This is your official induction to the Indiana University family!! You get to hear the President of IU speak, take the Indiana Promise, and afterwards have a picnic outdoors with a bunch of other freshman. Family is invited to attend as well! There are two sessions, each lasting 45 minutes. From what I hear, this is pretty neat, and a good way for new freshman to really feel apart of their respective class (in this case, the Class of 2016).
Wednesday, August 15th @ 6pm
Woodburn Hall Rm 101
Ahhh transfer students...I am one of you, and I know what it feels like coming over to IU from a completely different setting. You want to at least ease into your new school and feel a bit comfortable, and not as newbish (seeing as you have been in college for how many years now)--this is the perfect way to do that. At the very least attend, and meet some other new transfer students!
Meeting Your Floormatees
Wednesday, August 15th...in your dorm
On Wednesday evening, all of the RAs and floor presidents will be getting their communities/floors together to go over some kind of mandatory stuff. Which is all great and good you know. But the more important thing, and more fun, is socializing and getting to know the people that will be living around you/with you! I guarantee you'll like dorm life a million times more if you get along with at least some of the people on your floor or in your dorm. But you know..you don't have to love everyone. Just respect them.
Play It Up: Game Night at Wells Library
Thursday, August 16th 8-11pm
This is possibly the only time in the school year where the gargantuan study-area known as Wells Library turns into a giant play place. Play video games, cards, eat foods, and have an all around good time with your fellow new students at a place you will definitely be familiar with by the end of the year.
Friday, August 17th 9-11am (work-study) and 1-3pm (non-work-study)
Alumni Hall, IMU
Money money money money!!! MOOONNEEEY!! Do you realize you need that dough, that paper dawg!? Then get on over to a job fair session and talk to some knowledgeable folks about possible work opportunities so you can make bank YO (why I just wrote like that I have no idea)!!!
I know this isn't in chronologically the right spot, but I have to save the one I like the best for last!
Thursday, August 16th from 4:30-7:30pm at the IU Auditorium (and around it)
So I guess I am kind of obligated to like CultureFest, because the IU Breakdance Club is performing there from 5:50-6:00pm on Stage 2. Shameless plug, I know, but it's my club and I love it, so I like to throw it out there every once and a while! Anyway, this is fun event where you get to eat a bunch of good international foods, meet or participate in different clubs or cultural activities, hear awesome music, and watch performances! I remember coming to CultureFest last year when I first transferred here--it was awesome taking in the sights and sounds, and it really made me love IU even more, seeing all the different cultures represented. I encourage you to go and enjoy it, it is well worth it!
...and if you want, come talk to me!! I'm the Asian looking kid that wll be breaking (or break dancing as it can often be referred as)! I'd love to meet you!!! :)
I know, no pictures or videos or anything cool in this post (well except the COOL information I gave you about this COOL week...), but those will be for another day. Have fun this week guys! School starts up soon...and you know..that probably won't be as easy as this week. ;)
BAM!! STALK AND BEFRIEND ME!
