Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

Halloween is right around the corner, and if you are like most people, you haven’t even begun to think about a costume. Don’t worry, there are plenty of great costumes out there that take little effort to make. Here are some ideas!

Mario and Luigi

What you need:

  • A red t-shirt and a green t-shirt
  • Red baseball cap and green baseball cap
  • White gloves
  • Overalls or jeans with suspenders
  • Construction paper

Use yellow construction paper and cut out circles to make the overall buttons. Use white construction paper and cut out circles, then mark one with an M and the other with an L. Tape or pin these to your hats.

Clark Kent

Calling all Kelley students! Use your business wardrobe as a costume. Here’s what you need:

  • White button-down shirt
  • Tie
  • Slacks
  • Glasses
  • Superman tshirt

You could also pair with a friend and be the Men in Black.

What you need:

  • White button-down shirt
  • black tie
  • black skirt or slacks and suit jacket
  • sunglasses

Barbie and Ken

This is a fun couple outfit that only requires you to pick out all the brightest, most patterned, or colorful clothes in your wardrobe.

What you need:

  • bright, colorful clothing
  • bold makeup and blush
  • hairspray
  • A smile!

Squeeze Toy Aliens from Toy Story

“The Clawwwww!” Everyone loves these little green aliens. Get a group of friends together and try out this costume!

What you need:

  • Blue shirt, blue pants
  • belt
  • Neon green beanie
  • Purple choker
  • Construction paper

 Finding Bonggamo, Blogspot

Cut out three large circles out of white construction paper, and three smaller circles out of black paper. Tape or glue these together and put them on your beanie, creating three alien eyes. You’ll also need the Pizza Planet logo on your shirt; you could either draw one or print it out.

Charlie Brown and Snoopy

Turn this classic comic into a fun costume for you and your bestie!

What you need:

  • White shirt and pants
  • Eye liner and black eye shadow
  • Black construction paper
  • Red choker
  • Yellow shirt and black marker/paint, black shorts

For Snoopy, use eye liner to outline a dog’s nose on your own nose. Fill it in with black eye shadow. Put your hair in pigtails or buns. Use a red choker to act as Snoopy’s collar. Cut out a large circle from black paper and tape it to the back of your shirt. For Charlie Brown, wear a plain, yellow shirt and black shorts. Use either black electrical tape or paint to get the signature zig zag.

Bag of Jelly Beans

What you need:

  • Clear trash bag
  • Balloons
  • Ribbon

Cut out holes in the bag for your arms and legs. Fill balloons with air and add them to the bag. Use string or a ribbon above your shoulders to hold up the bag. Add a candy logo and voila!

Memes also make for great costumes because they’re simple but require people to think a little bit about your outfit. You could try one of the following memes this Halloween.

Salt Bae

What you need:

  • White crew-neck
  • Sunglasses with circular frames
  • Salt shaker or packs of salt

Snapchat Dancing Hot Dog

If I see the Snapchat Dancing Hot Dog this Halloween, my day will be made.

What you need:

  • Hot dog suit OR
  • Brown shirt and khakis, brown jumpsuit, or dress
  • Brown jacket or sweater
  • Green scarf
  • Yellow tape or paint
  • Headphones

Use yellow tape as mustard and tape it to the front of your outfit. Use a green scarf as the relish. Complete the costume with headphones and some break dancing skills!

Cash Me Ousside Girl

What you need:

  • Gold chain and hoop earrings
  • Black cami

If you're really crunched for time, you could use one of the following ideas for a little effort costume.

IU Basketball Player

If you’re an IU basketball fanatic, you probably own all of this stuff already! Don the candy-striped pants and be an athlete for the night.

What you need:

  • Basketball jersey or warm-up
  • Candy striped pants
  • Basketball

Nickelback

What you need:

  • T-shirt and jeans
  • Nickels
  • tape

Take your nickels and tape them to the back of your shirt. It's as simple as that.

Identity Thief

What you need:

  • 'Hello, my name is..." stickers or loose leaf paper
  • marker

If you don't have stickers, write "Hello, my name is" on loose leaf, cut it out, and tape it to your shirt. Fill out these papers with names of your friends. If you want to take this costume to the next level, borrow your friend's clothing and dress as they would.

As you can see, there are plenty of costumes that take little effort to make. If you are still at a loss for ideas, do a costume swap! Dig up last year's outfit and switch with a friend. Whatever you do, don’t settle for your basic go-to outfit or fish out $40 for a costume from the party store; get creative and make something cool!
