The Ideal IU Care Package

So, you want to send a care package. You buy the box, find the address, but then comes the hard part... What do you put in it?

First off, receiving ANYTHING in the mail for me is exciting. Its always a little day brightener to know that someone thought of me and wanted to send me something. So, when in doubt, a cute little card or note will always be appreciated!

As far as what could go in that big brown box of yours, here are some of my favorites:

Starbucks Gift Cards

I must say this is my number one favorite thing to get. We have a Starbucks in the IMU, there is one near Kirkwood and a few other locations. Starbucks is never something I would buy for myself very often, but with a gift card and those new red holiday cups... It is just the perfect study pick me up. Even if the student doesn't like coffee, a hot chocolate or scone can definitely come to good use.

You would be surprised how exciting a box of your favorite granola bars can be when you haven't had any good way to get some. Candy or gum is always great, because we rarely buy it for ourselves but love it for study time. Think small, yet big... What is something they love to eat but probably don't get very much in a college setting?

Stickers and Coloring Books

You would be surprised how much we revert to childhood in college! Just come fun stickers or a coloring book can be a great stress reliever and something to occupy that little bit of free time we do have. Don't forget the markers or crayons! Even some fun pens or erasers can be a great pick me up.

DVD's and Magazines

While books are great, and I love to read, we are usually busy enough reading what we have to get by in classes, so quick reads, like magazines, are perfect! DVD's of a good movie, particularly a new release, are awesome for our weekend movie nights and a good way of stay at home (or dorm) entertainment.

A Little Piece of Home

One of my favorite things to receive is something I left at home that I never even realized I would want here... An old stuffed animal, my favorite nail polish, or a framed picture of my friends or family. There are some things you don't even realize you missed until you get them back again!

Hope this helps!

Just remember, the fact that you thought of them brings happiness enough! You really can't go wrong!
