Back to the Grind: Goals for Second Semester

It's 2013, y'all. Whether or not you believed the Mayan prophecy, that the world was going to end on December 21, it didn't and now it's back to the real world. A new semester of school brings new classes, new people, new activites, lots of new changes! I like the beginning of the semester because everything is new and fresh and everything seems so exciting. Here are some tips to start off the new semester right.

1. Get (re) organized: Everyone has their own organziation system. I like having a separate notebook and folder for each class, but everyone is different. You can use some of the same folders and things you used during first semester, but clean out that old junk and start new. I'm one of those obsessive organized freaks (nothing wrong with it, though!) who color codes things and once I get all my syllabi, I write down all my assignments. Whatever your system is, do it at the beginning before you get a ton of papers and can't remember where you stuck that very important piece of paper.

2. Set realistic goals: January is the time for resolutions.... and also the time when they get broken. This is because a lot of people set goals for themselves that they just can't meet. I personally do not make New Year's resolutions, I think that it is too built up and that goals or resolutions can be made anytime. So back to the whole realistic thing. I have a hard time with this one too because I tell myself oh yeah, i;m going to do this, but then don't. I've learned to think about what you want to accomplish and then break that down into small goals you will actually do.

3.  Better Time Management: Everyone is different about this; some people thrive by staying up late/waking up early to get things done while others perfer to get everything done before they have fun. I'm more of the latter type until I get on Facebook/Twitter/Youtube. So yeah, I need to be better about this and I'm sure a lot of you do too. It's okay to take little breaks, but the main thing is do get everyhting done first and have fun later.

These are just a few tips that can help you this semester and also remember to TREAT YOURSELF! Every once in a while take time to do something for you, buy yourself a little something, have that brownie you know you're craving, do a dance... whatever just make sure you're keeping yourself happy and then you will be renergized and able to get through the grind of classes, tests, projects, etc...

Have a great semester!!! :)
