The road to Omaha starts here.
This phrase means so much to any collegiate baseball team. Omaha (not Peyton Manning's notorious call) is home to the College World Series. It is here that the culmination of a hardworking team and a winning season becomes real. The 2018 season is set to begin next week in South Carolina. For all those baseball fans, be sure to follow along on Twitter for live updates! However, here a few things to know for those who are new to IU Baseball!
1) Your 2018 captains are ... Pauly Milto (pitcher) and Ryan Fineman (catcher)
These captains are both juniors who were chosen by their teammates for their day-to-day performances. Head Coach Chris Lemonis is excited to have these two lead the team as they are "talented baseball players... [and] men of high character."
2) IU Baseball was ranked 17th in Perfect Game Preseason Top 25
Indiana is the only Big Ten team to be ranked in the top 25... need I say more?
3) Reserved Season Tickets Are Already Sold Out
As of Monday, February 5th, reserved season tickets are already sold out. For those who don't know what that means, the red chairs at Bart Kaufman field are already bought for the season. General admission tickets are on sale for the public. Before you fret, baseball games are free for students with a valid ID! Even IU baseball alum and current Cubs player, Kyle Schwarber, is first-bumping after hearing the news!
4) The home opener is against Cincinnati on March 7th!
The game starts at 4 PM. Last year, Cincinnati had its home opener against IU. Now it is our turn to host the Bearcats!
Baseball is not for the impatient. However, the hours spent sitting in all types of weather, hearing the crack/ding of the ball and bat colliding, and feeling the rush of excitement as the Hoosiers battle it out is worth experiencing in person. The 2018 season is literally right around the corner and boy is Indiana ready.
